Mexico City is the capital of Mexico. The director of the western Mexican news organization Monitor Michoacan was assassinated on Tuesday, bringing the total number of such killings in the first two and a half months of 2022 to more than double that of the previous year. According to Reporters Without Borders, it was the eighth murder of a journalist in Mexico this year, one more than in 2021.
