The organisers of the Beijing Olympics have reported 45 fresh positive COVID-19 tests. There were 26 illnesses among fresh airport arrivals, including 20 athletes or team officials, accounting for 26 percent of the total.

The other 20 occurrences were those working at the games, including the media, with six occurring at the airport and 14 occurring within the Olympic boundaries. According to Huang Chun, a member of the organising committee, the numbers are “within our expectations”.

Cases are anticipated to fall in the coming days as fewer people attend the games and those within the bubbles have already returned after many days of negative testing. Since January 23, there have been 353 Covid-19 instances at the games. More than 12,000 individuals have arrived from countries other than China.
