Since the Covid-19 epidemic, liquor sales in West Bengal have hit an all-time high, breaking all prior records.

The sale of liquor has increased dramatically in the previous 18 months, according to data from the excise department.

According to excise department sources, the period from June 2020 to December 2021 earned income of Rs 23,000 crore. The money collected from liquor sales in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 combined was Rs 19,000 crore, according to statistics.

Officials reported the numbers during the coronavirus outbreak were at an all-time high, with 2021 having the highest number of booze sales.

In both 2020 and 2021, sales for Durga Puja and Christmas were unparalleled. In contrast to other districts, Kolkata ranked first in terms of booze sales.

Durga Puja brought in a total of Rs 404 crore in income in 2021. Meanwhile, income was Rs 650 crore from December 25 to December 31. One of the causes for the strong sales was the use of home delivery applications.

According to sources, the state administration is looking into making the process of obtaining a liquor licence for shops, bars, and restaurants more straightforward.
