In the midst of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv announced on Monday that the weekend curfew had been removed. The Embassy recommended students to proceed to the railway station, noting that Ukraine Railways is putting special trains in place for evacuations.
“Kyiv’s weekend curfew has been abolished. All students are instructed to proceed to the railway station in order to continue their journey to the western portions. Ukraine Railways is deploying special evacuation trains”. Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla announced on Sunday that the Indian government has initiated a multi-pronged evacuation strategy dubbed ‘Operation Ganga’ to rescue Indian residents stuck in Ukraine. The Centre has also established a special Twitter handle, “OpGanga Helpline”, to aid with the evacuation of Indians from Ukraine as part of Operation Ganga.
Given the emergency scenario, the Indian government is footing the bill for evacuation. The Twitter account includes hotline numbers in Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Slovak Republic, all of which border Ukraine.
