Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged Israel to share its Iron Dome missile defence technology with Ukraine. However, this is easier said than done

In his most recent request for international assistance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy questioned Israel’s refusal to deliver the beleaguered country its Iron Dome missile defence system.

Israel has decried the Russian incursion but is leery of hurting relations with Moscow, a power broker in neighbouring Syria, where Israeli soldiers often battle pro-Iranian militants.

“Everyone knows that your missile defence systems are the greatest… and that you can surely save our people, save the lives of Ukrainians, of Ukrainian Jews”, Mr Zelenskyy, who is Jewish, said through video link to the Israeli Knesset.

He brought up Israel’s Iron Dome system, which is frequently used to intercept rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza.
