The US Senate has decisively approved a package of $13.6 billion (£10.3 billion) in aid for Ukraine, sending the bill to President Biden’s desk for signature.
The measure is part of a wider government budget plan that was adopted after the ruling Democrats withdrew funds for Covid relief owing to opposition from Republicans.
“We’re giving the Ukrainians billions of dollars for food, medicine, shelter, and support for the over two million refugees who have been forced to flee Ukraine, as well as funding for weapons transfers like Javelins and Stingers [missiles]”, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said ahead of the vote.
