The United States has issued a new travel warning for Russia, stating that officials “may single out and detain” Americans who visit the country.
The warning reiterates appeals for Americans not to travel to Russia or to depart “immediately”, citing the possibility of harassment of US citizens.
It also forewarned Americans about the “arbitrary application of local law”.
The advice also stated that there have been instances of US nationals “being singled out and imprisoned by the Russian military” while in Ukraine or leaving by land through Russia-occupied territory.
“If you intend to leave Russia, you should make your own preparations as quickly as possible”, it says.
Days after President Putin declared his invasion, the United States suspended its embassy and consulate in Ukraine.
