The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss the rising humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine.

According to diplomatic sources, the conference was organised by the United States, Britain, France, Ireland, Norway, and Albania in response to an uptick in bombardment on civilian areas in recent days.

Along with Russia and China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France are all permanent members of the Council. Russia still has the Security Council presidency in March, which means that movement on several resolutions has been blocked.

According to reports, talks are also on to arrange for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to address the United Nations General Assembly, which is comprised of all member states.
