Britain’s defence minister, Ben Wallace, said on Tuesday that if Poland decides to provide Ukraine with fighter planes, it will back it up, but cautioned that doing so might have a direct impact on Poland.
“I would back the Poles and whatever decision they made”, Wallace said Sky News, adding that the UK could not provide aircraft that the Ukrainians could use.
“We’d protect Poland and offer anything they needed”, he declared. “Poland will see that its actions will not only directly support Ukraine, which is a positive thing, but may also lead to direct conflict with governments such as Russia or Belarus”.
