Ukraine’s Civil War: Air India’s Mid-Flight Evacuation to Kyiv After the country closes its airspace to civilian flights

Following Ukraine’s closure of its civilian airspace due to potential threats, an Air India aircraft, AI 1947, which had departed from New Delhi for Kyiv to evacuate Indians from the country, has been halted in mid-flight.
The Air India Dreamliner, flight number “1947”, had previously taken off for Kyiv’s Kyiv Boryspil International Airport. The airline had planned three special flights this week to remove Indians from Ukraine.
Last week, India lifted the restriction on the number of flights to Ukraine under the current air bubble agreement in order to enable the repatriation of Indians from there. The aviation ministry has “removed the restriction on the number of flights and seats between India and Ukraine under the air bubble arrangement”, according to a spokeswoman. There are no restrictions on the number of flights or charters that can be operated. Indian airlines have been notified to plan the flights due to increasing demand. In conjunction with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Aviation Ministry is aiding.
