After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Biden administration is ready to press through with a ban on Russian oil imports into the US without the assistance of European partners, two individuals familiar with the situation told Reuters. On Monday, Vice President Joe Biden will have a video conference call with the presidents of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The White House is reportedly in talks with congressional leaders about rushing through legislation against Russian imports. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi said her chamber is “exploring” legislation to prohibit Russian oil imports. According to Reuters, no final decision has been taken, but “it is likely to be simply the United States if it happens.” On Monday, President Joe Biden is scheduled to conduct a video conference call with the leaders of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom as his government seeks their backing for a ban on imports.
