According to reports, MAN today attacked a Dover shelter for asylum seekers with a firebomb before committing suicide.
The suspected attacker is claimed to have arrived by car this morning at the Western Jet Foil Center, which receives small boat arrivals after they touch down on British soil.
After then, according to a photographer who witnessed the incident, he stepped out of his car and threw a number of petrol bombs with pyrotechnics attached at the center. The man then killed himself, the agency added.
According to Kent Police, they were called to the center this morning at 11:22 a.m. where two or three incendiary devices had started a fire.
There was one recorded minor injury. Police said investigations were ongoing but they were unable to corroborate allegations that the suspect had passed away.
A Home Office spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident at Western Jet Foil, Dover, and police are in attendance. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”
Charities have requested that the government denounce the assault.
Detention Action Tweeted: We’re deeply alarmed at reports of a violent attack on people seeking asylum held at a processing centre in Dover this morning.
“This government must condemn today’s attack and take every step possible to protect the safety, rights and welfare of the people seeking asylum in their care.”
“It would be kinder and more effective to simply help people rather than continue this damaging campaign that tears the fabric of our society and leads to events such as these.”
