The COP27 summit is being held in Egypt, and the Egyptian host has accused other governments attending of making outward remarks in favor of the negotiations while secretly opposing them. Wael Abdoulmagd, the summit’s coordinator, said: “In front of the cameras, political declarations and promises are made, but in the negotiation rooms, the adversarial style is back in use. These won’t be useful until they’re applied in the negotiation rooms, which hasn’t happened yet.”
The discrepancy between what is said and what is done, according to Abdoulmagd, cannot persist, and compromise must be demonstrated. There have already been a number of formal meetings between various leaders in Sharm el-Sheikh. According to sources, throughout the course of the two weeks of negotiations, up to 120 leaders will assemble.
The summit, which is the first Cop to be held in Africa in six years, will also focus on major efforts to decrease carbon emissions, the situation in Ukraine, and other international challenges as the globe deals with the repercussions of the climate emergency. The conference will be attended by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who recently confirmed this. It’s critical to pay attention to climate change, according to Sunak. On the third day of the conference, US Vice President Joe Biden is planning to show up. The first two days won’t have the president in attendance. It is predicted that Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Russian President Vladimir Putin won’t be present.
