The Disney’s First Indian Princess Musical To be Helmed by Gurinder Chadha

#Disney is finally creating an Indian Princess. The Disney franchise is working on an original musical picture with filmmaker Gurinder Chadha and screenwriter Paul Mayeda Berges. According to reports, the film will be about a “dynamic princess” from Indian history. Chaddha is a two-time BAFTA nominee best remembered for his roles in “Bend It Like Beckham” and “Bride and Prejudice.”

Little is known about Chadha and Disney’s new project, while a Deadline article claims that it will be led by Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Motion Picture Production. Lindy Goldstein, the producer behind ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,’ is also expected to join the production team under her Lindy Goldstein Production name.

Gurinder Chadha, a British director of Indian heritage, runs her own production company, Bend It Films, which has grossed over $300 million USD at the box office. Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges both premiered the stage musical version of ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ in London’s West End in 2015, to amazing reviews.
