The lucrative project is scheduled to be bid on by three companies: Westinghouse Electric Company of the United States, EDF of France, and KHNP of Korea. On security reasons, Russian and Chinese businesses were barred from the bidding, including Russia’s energy behemoth Rosatom and China’s CNG. More over a third of the Czech Republic’s total power is generated by six nuclear reactors. The Czech Republic, unlike its western neighbours Austria and Germany, is doubling down on nuclear power. Slovakia and Hungary have also been seeking to increase their nuclear power generation capacity.
