In her speech to the nation, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen warned China that Taiwan would never give up its freedom and democratic way of life, drawing comparisons to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, recently discussed his ideas for resolving the conflict between Taiwan and China during an interview with the Financial Times. According to the report, he advised: “figuring out a special administrative zone for Taiwan that is reasonably palatable, probably won’t make everyone happy.”

However, Qin Gang, China’s ambassador to the US, praised Musk’s idea and thanked him. Taiwan’s ambassador to the United States, Hsiao Bi-Khim, harshly criticized it on Twitter, writing, “Any lasting proposal for our future must be determined peacefully, free from coercion, and respectful of the democratic wishes of the people of Taiwan.” She added that Taiwan’s freedom and democracy were not for sale.
