With Sri Lanka facing an unprecedented economic crisis, a refugee influx to Tamil Nadu has begun, with 16 Sri Lankan citizens reaching the state’s coastline.

The migrants landed in Tamil Nadu in two groups on Tuesday.

While six individuals came on Tuesday afternoon, including a family of a man, wife, and their four-month-old kid, and a lady and her six and twelve-year-old children, the remainder arrived late at night.

In Sri Lanka, there is a severe financial crisis, with the cost of key goods such as milk and rice soaring, fuel and diesel unavailable, and power plants shut down. Schools are unable to hold exams owing to a scarcity of paper for printing question papers.
