Anarchists have taken over a key London building belonging to Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska.
According to the Anarchist Action Network, they are occupying the Belgrave Square house in protest of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and to express “solidarity” with the people of Ukraine and Russian residents “who never agreed to this folly”.
According to the organisation, the land would be used for “refugee relief, for people of Ukraine and people of other nationalities and ethnicities”.
Last Monday, the United Kingdom added Deripaska, an industrialist with strong links to Russian President Vladimir Putin, to its list of sanctioned individuals. Since April 2018, Deripaska has been sanctioned in the United States.
