Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday announced the Special Pongal package, which will allow 2.15 million ration card holders and Sri Lankan Tamils residing in rehabilitation camps to celebrate the harvest festival this month.
At an event held at the State Secretariat, Stalin announced the distribution of the Pongal package, which contained 20 grocery items including Raw rice, jaggery, cashew, resins, moong dal, ghee, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander, mustard, cumin, tamarind, cardamom, urad dhal, Bengal gramme, wheat flour, rava, and salt.
According to estimates, these hampers would be distributed to 2,15,48,060 family cards and Lankan Tamil households.
Unlike last year, when the AIADMK administration announced a cash component of Rs 2,500 for each card holder, the DMK regime, which took power in May last year, did not declare any financial component as part of the pongal gift hamper pack this year.
