The Ministry of Information and Technology (MeitY) has taken action against many Twitter, Facebook, and Telegram accounts for disseminating modified footage of a cabinet briefing.
MeitY stated that multiple films have circulated on social media over the last week, including the most recent altered recordings, which supposedly depicted a cabinet briefing with overlaid audio.
According to MoS for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar, 73 Twitter identities, four YouTube videos, and one Instagram game that were reportedly propagating disinformation or hostile content have been suspended or removed.
The proprietors of these accounts have been discovered and will be prosecuted under the law, and these social media networks’ due diligence will be evaluated, he added.
Action was also taken against Telegram channels and Facebook profiles that posted insulting comments about women.
The government has contacted YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Telegram, requesting that action be made against such accounts immediately.
