Shanghai tightens its security measures and prohibits citizens from leaving their homes.

Residents in a Shanghai neighbourhood will be restricted to their houses and will only be permitted out to take a Covid test. As daily COVID instances spiked on Tuesday, the first part of a two-stage Covid-19 lockdown was implemented, prohibiting dog walking and barring individuals from leaving their houses. The closure adds to market concerns over Russia’s conflict in Ukraine, the Federal Reserve’s efforts to moderate rising inflation, and other economic issues. Despite an increase across the country, the number of new COVID-19 fatalities has remained modest.
