Those who do not have a smartphone or an internet connection will no longer be able to make Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments. On Tuesday, Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das introduced UPI123Pay to provide feature phone users in the country with a digital payment environment.
He also established DigiSaathi, a 24-hour helpdesk for digital payments.
Except for scan and pay, UPI 123Pay clients will be able to utilise feature phones for practically all transactions. Users using feature phones do not require an internet connection to conduct transactions. Customers must link their bank accounts to feature phones in order to access this service.
At 12 p.m. on March 8, 2022, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das announced the introduction of UPI for feature phones – UPI123Pay – and a 24*7 helpdesk for digital payments – DigiSaathi. Customers in remote regions who cannot afford a smartphone may now utilise UPI on feature phones. “Watch out for RBI Governor @DasShaktikanta’s introduction of UPI for feature phones – UPI123Pay and 24*7 helpline for digital payments – DigiSaathi at 12 noon on March 08, 2022”, the central bank of India tweeted.
