The White House announced Thursday that President Joe Biden will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday for their first known meeting in months. According to a White House official, the two would address “competition between our two countries as well as Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.” Their most recent known exchange occurred in November at a three-and-a-half-hour virtual summit. According to US sources, Xi has been shaken by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Since taking office, President Trump has made it clear that controlling China’s competitiveness is a long-term national security and economic priority for the US.
On March 24, the President will fly to Brussels to attend a NATO summit as well as a European Council meeting. Russian misinformation tactics have been supported in Chinese domestic media, and the conflict has been referred to as a “special military operation.”
