NATO has being pressured by the three Baltic nations and Romania to increase force deployments in their respective countries. Four new combat units are being formed in Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria, according to Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will meet with US legislators to explore the possibility of a gold reserve freeze in Russia. US sanctions might target Russia’s gold stockpiles, which are estimated to be worth $130 billion. Biden will also meet with G7 and EU leaders to address the humanitarian catastrophe created by the Ukraine conflict, as well as the likelihood of more sanctions against Russia.
