According to official sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke by phone with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday about the current conflict crisis.
The phone talk lasted roughly 35 minutes, according to reports, and the two leaders addressed the growing situation in Ukraine. PM Modi also expressed appreciation for the ongoing direct talks between Russia and Ukraine, according to the statement.
Prime Minister Modi thanked President Zelensky for Ukraine’s assistance in evacuating Indian people from the war-torn country. He also requested continuing assistance in Sumy’s ongoing evacuation operations.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi is slated to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile, despite Russia’s announcement of a cease-fire beginning Monday morning and the creation of humanitarian corridors in many places, its military forces continued to bombard Ukrainian cities, with several rocket launchers striking residential structures.
The limited ceasefire announcement came a day after Russian bombardment of cities in Ukraine’s centre, north, and south prompted hundreds of thousands of residents fleeing to safety to take cover. Both party’s officials agreed to hold a third round of negotiations on Monday.
