The use of antivirals or monoclonal antibodies is not recommended for those under the age of 18, regardless of the severity of Covid infection. The Government advises in case steroids are used, they should be tapered over 10 to 14 days, subject to clinical improvement.
The health ministry also stated in the revised guidelines for Management of COVID-19 in Children and Youths below 18 years that masks are not recommended for children aged five and below.
It is permissible to wear for children aged 6 to 11 years old, depending on the child’s ability to use a mask safely and appropriately under the direct supervision of parents. The ministry stated that children aged 12 and up should wear masks under the same conditions as adults. A group of medical experts reviewed the guidelines in light of the current situation, which is primarily attributed to the Omicron variant which is also definitely a variant of concern.
