Researchers Find Four Species of Dinosaurs: ‘Super Exciting’

1 min read

Scientists have made astonishing discoveries. In a barren valley in Chilean Patagonia, they discovered the remains of four different types of dinosaurs. According to the researchers, the fossils found in 2021 and brought to the laboratory belong to previously unidentified species.

The Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH), in collaboration with the University of Chile and the University of Texas, discovered an expedition.

Talking to AFP, Marcelo Leppe, director of Inach, said, “It’s always super exciting in scientific terms to find something that has not previously been discovered or described.”

Researchers have discovered the remains of two bird species, an enantiornithine, believed to be the most abundant bird of the Mesozoic Era, and the Ornithurae, a group directly related to today’s birds. According to the findings, species of dinosaurs, including a megaraptor, lived in the region at the end of the Cretaceous period, 66 to 75 million years ago.

Jared Amudeo, a researcher with the University of Chile, states that the Unenlagiinae remains to have a “novel evolutionary character, which would indicate that this is a new species of unenlagine or perhaps a representative of a different clade (group).”
