Pune: Cop Kidnapped Trader to Extort Bitcoins Worth Rs.300 Crore

At least eight people, including a police officer, were detained in Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad on Wednesday for reportedly kidnapping a man in order to extort bitcoin cryptocurrency valued at Rs. 300 crore.

During the inquiry, Zone 2 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anand Bhoite disclosed that a policeman, Dilip Tukaram Khandare, has been working with the Pune cybercrime division. And he learned that share dealer Vinay Naik possessed bitcoin cryptocurrency worth Rs 300 crore.

As a result of this, Khandare conspired with his other companions to kidnap Vinay Naik and abduct bitcoins. Mr. Bhoite went on to say that the accused had kidnapped the victim from a hotel on January 14. The inquiry began when the victim’s friend filed a FIR. According to the authorities, the accused freed the victim and dropped him off in a neighbourhood because he was afraid of being arrested. The victim then told authorities that he had been abducted for bitcoins.
