Before the #Olympic Games in 2024, a group of pickpockets and fraudsters were reportedly active near the #Eiffel Tower. Paris Police has confirmed that they will begin cracking down on this group. The most recent incident happened over the weekend when Pakistani souvenir sellers assaulted a local kid in the head with bottles, causing head injuries. According to reports, the young person was attacked while attempting to take little Eiffel Tower souvenirs.
France’s reputation during the Olympic Games in 2024 is threatened by the degree of crime in the Champ de Mars public gardens, where the Eiffel Tower is located.
“We are going to saturate the site to fight against crime and to disperse the troublemakers,” the Paris police chief added. A significant police operation was started earlier in May to target pickpockets, unauthorized street entertainers, and merchants. The tower is still susceptible to similar crimes even after the first decline in pickpocket offenses.
The Eiffel Tower saw 1.6 million visitors up until June of this year. In 2022, 5.5 million people are predicted to visit, which would be 10% fewer than in 2019. The summer Olympics will be held in 2024 in the French capital.
