On Wednesday, the Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) announced 866 new COVID-19 infections, increasing the total number of confirmed cases to 3,663,920 in the Southeast Asian country.
The DOH said that 53 additional persons died as a result of COVID-19 problems, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 56,504.
Since the highly transmissible disease developed in early 2020, the government has begun publishing daily COVID-19 bulletins. As the number of coronavirus cases drops, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said in a television interview on Wednesday that the DOH would stop releasing daily COVID-19 bulletins on March 7.
Instead, every Monday afternoon, the DOH would release a weekly bulletin, he said.
