Following an attack in which a man stormed into the couple’s house and struck her spouse with a hammer, House Speaker #Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that her husband had been released from the hospital.
#David DePape, the 42-year-old suspect in the violent incident, allegedly wanted to tie up Nancy Pelosi and shatter her kneecaps but instead found her 82-year-old husband, Paul Pelosi. The speaker stated in a news release that “Paul is under doctors’ care as he continues to advance on a long recovery journey and convalescence.” He is currently at home with his family, who ask for solitude.
After entering a not-guilty plea to the attempted murder charge and other charges during his appearance on Tuesday in a San Francisco court, DePape was taken into custody last week and placed under detention. Nancy Pelosi said in the San Francisco hospital where he was treated, “Paul is grateful to the 911 operator, emergency responders, trauma care team, ICU staff, and the whole… medical personnel.”
She continued, “The Pelosi family is grateful for the lovely outpouring of love, support, and prayers from all over the world.” Paul Pelosi was roused from his bed early on Friday morning, according to the state prosecutors’ petition, by DePape who was carrying a hammer and several plastic zip ties. Because Nancy Pelosi is “number two in line for the president,” he informed Paul Pelosi, “we’ve got to take them all out.” US President Joe Biden compared the attack to the political violence used against Congress on January 6, 2021, by the followers of the late President Donald Trump in a speech on Wednesday.
