Both teams batted well, with Punjab Kings (PBKS) finally defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by five wickets in their opening match of the season. Chasing 206, the squad got off to a fantastic start, with Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan putting on 71 runs in 7.1 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga then broke the stand, dismissing Mayank in his opening ball of the season on 32(24). Punjab’s struggle was maintained by Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who combined 47 runs for the second wicket before Harshal Patel supplied RCB with their second breakthrough, dismissing the Indian on 43. (29). Rajapaksa also made 22 runs in 22 balls before being caught by Mohammed Siraj, who then went on to remove India’s U-19-star Raj Angad Bawa in the next delivery. Liam Livingstone was the final batter to leave the field, as a late cameo by Odean Smith enabled PBKS win with an over to spare. Earlier in the evening, Faf du Plessis hit 88 off 57 balls to help the Royal Challengers finish on 205/2 after being requested to bat first. The RCB captain had excellent assistance from Virat Kohli, with the pair adding 118 runs for the second wicket. Kohli returned with an undefeated 41 off 29 balls.
