Both teams batted well, with Punjab Kings (PBKS) finally defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by five wickets in their opening match of the season. Chasing 206, the squad got off to a fantastic start, with Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan putting on 71 runs in 7.1 overs. Punjab’s struggle was maintained by Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who combined 47 runs for the second wicket before Harshal Patel supplied RCB with their second breakthrough, dismissing the Indian on 43. Liam Livingstone was the final batter to leave the field, as a late cameo by Odean Smith enabled PBKS win with an over to spare. Earlier in the evening, Faf du Plessis hit 88 off 57 balls to help the Royal Challengers finish on 205/2 after being requested to bat first. The RCB captain had excellent assistance from Virat Kohli, with the pair adding 118 runs for the second wicket. Kohli returned with an undefeated 41 off 29 balls.
