It was not just ‘RRR’ that was nominated in the Best Song category for ‘Naatu Naatu.’ Two other films from India also got nods in their classes. The nomination for ‘Naatu Naatu’ was nearly inevitable after its Golden Globe succeeded before this month. Apart from SS Rajamouli’s colonial India-set epic, The Elephant Whisperers, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, even accepted a nomination in the Best Documentary Short category. To finish the hat trick, Shaunak Sen’s acclaimed All that Breathes was even awarded a nomination – in the Best Documentary Feature category.

Among other contenders, Everything Everywhere All at Once garnered 11 nominations. All Quiet on the Western Front and The Banshees of Inisherin are tied for the second position with nine nods.

The Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards, are considered among the most prestigious awards in the film industry. Yet, winning an Oscar does not necessarily indicate a film’s high quality. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences members, composed of a relatively small group of industry professionals, decide the Oscars. As such, the nominees and winners are often determined by industry politics, personal connections, and even campaigning and lobbying by studios and filmmakers.
