The Tamil Nadu tableau which was rejected by the centre to display in Delhi’s Republic Day parade, showcased in Chennai’s Republic Day parade. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin assured citizens that the tableau would be displayed for public viewing in all major cities throughout the state. Stalin also stated that the state had implemented all three corrections suggested by the selection committee but had not been invited to the fourth round of meetings or given a reason for the rejection. The theme of the tableau was the rich Tamil heritage in freedom struggle and its rejection caused disappointment, CM added.
One tableau displayed the Marudu Brothers – Periya Marudu and Chinna Marudu were hanged in Tirupattur after being defeated by the British. Velu Natchiyar was spotted on a horse, Subramania Bharthiyar, VVS Iyer, Quaid-e-Millath, and others were prominently featured in a tableau. VOC, the freedom fighter, was also depicted pulling an oil press. The tableau with Periyar, on the other hand, drew the most attention from the audience. He was the central figure in the tableau depicting Tirupur Kumaran, who continued to wave the flag even after he was apprehended by British police.
