The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that no complaints of Indian students being taken captive in war-torn Ukraine have been received.

Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated, “We have not received any allegations of any student being held hostage. We have asked Ukrainian authorities assistance in organising special trains to transport students from Kharkiv and other locations to the western half of the nation”.

“Our embassy in Ukraine maintains constant contact with Indian nationals in the country. We note that, thanks to the collaboration of Ukrainian authorities, a large number of students departed Kharkiv yesterday”, He stated.

In a briefing, Russia’s Ministry of Defence stated that while Russia was attempting to evacuate Indian students from Kharkiv, Ukrainian soldiers had taken Indian prisoner. We appreciate the assistance provided by Ukrainian authorities in making this possible. We commend Ukraine’s western neighbours for accepting Indian people and supporting them while they awaited planes back home”.
