Facebook owner Meta is expected to decide whether to reinstate former US President Donald Trump on Facebook and Instagram after being reinstated on Twitter. The social media business had previously been asked to select by January 7, but the report claims that the date has been postponed until later.
According to the report, which cited persons with knowledge of the situation, Meta has formed a working group to address the problem. The group comprises staff members from the content policy, public policy, and communications teams. In November of last year, Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, lifted a blanket ban on Trump after polling users about whether he should be permitted to return. Trump asserted that he wouldn’t use Twitter again and would continue to use Truth Social.
When asked by a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting if he intended to return to Twitter, he responded via video, “I don’t see any reason for it.” Following his appeal for his supporters to denounce the 2020 elections, Trump’s Twitter and Facebook accounts were terminated in January 2021. As Joe Biden was sworn in as the next president, hundreds of them later invaded the Capitol.
