The #Maruti Suzuki Concept EVX SUV was unveiled at Auto Expo 2023.
Maruti Suzuki took its first step into the world of battery electric vehicles with the Concept EVX #SUV unveiling at Auto Expo 2023. The first vehicle to be shown at the motor show – which returns after a three-year hiatus is part of Suzuki’s global EV strategy and will enter production sometime in 2025.
Measuring 4,300 mm in length, 1,800 meters in width and 1,600 mm in height, the Concept EVX is aimed at the midsize SUV space. Maruti says the Idea has a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack but not specified the cell chemistry used. The 60 kWh battery enables a range of up to 550 kilometers, per the carmaker.
This will be Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle for India and be manufactured completely in the country. The carmaker has earlier said it will invest around 150 billion yen (about Rs 10,445 crore) by 2026 for local manufacturing of EVs and the batteries that will power them in Gujarat.
The company’s owned arm Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Ltd (SMG), will invest Rs 7,300 crore to construct a plant for EV batteries on land neighboring SMG’s existing plant by 2026. Also, SMG will invest another Rs 3,100 crore to increase production capacity for EV manufacturing by 2025.
