Mainland, China reports 39 local Covid cases

            According to local media quoting the National Health Commission, the Chinese mainland registered 39 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases in the previous 24 hours.

According to the commission, 16 new local illnesses were recorded on Thursday in Zhejiang, nine in Heilongjiang, eight in Beijing, four in Tianjin, and one each in Guizhou and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

There were additional reports of 25 imported COVID-19 cases on the mainland on Thursday.

Three new suspected cases coming from outside the mainland were recorded in Shanghai, and no new COVID-19 deaths were reported on the day, according to the news agency.

According to the commission, a total of 54 asymptomatic cases were freshly recorded on Thursday, with 42 of them arriving from outside the continent.

As of Thursday, the total number of verified COVID-19 cases recorded on the Chinese mainland, both domestic and imported, had reached 105,875.

On Thursday, there were 2,268 people still receiving care, with nine in critical condition. Since the pandemic’s emergence, 4,636 people have perished from the virus on the Chinese mainland, according to Xinhua.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 instances are increasing in China’s largest cities, including Beijing.

Following the announcement of the first instance of the Omicron variety of COVID-19, the city imposes rigorous new COVID-19 restrictions. This comes ahead of the Winter Olympics, which are set to take place next month.
