As the battle reached its 12th day, Russian soldiers increased their shelling of cities in Ukraine’s centre, north, and south, according to a Ukrainian official.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed Ukraine for the war, stating that Moscow’s assault could be stopped “only if Kyiv quits hostilities”. Late Sunday, the fringes of Kyiv, Chernihiv in the north, Mykolaiv in the south, and Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city, were heavily shelled. According to local officials, heavy artillery shelled residential areas in Kharkiv, and shelling destroyed a television tower. Food, water, medication, and practically all other supplies were in short supply in Mariupol, Ukraine’s southern port city, where Russian and Ukrainian forces had agreed to an 11-hour cease-fire to allow residents and the injured to be evacuated. However, Russian assaults rapidly shut off the humanitarian route, according to Ukrainian officials. On Monday, Russia and Ukraine will have their third round of negotiations.
