Amid mounting Covid-19 infections, the Tamil Nadu government sanctioned the ‘Jallikattu’ event – a traditional bull taming sport historically held during the Pongal festival in January – across the state on Monday, with restrictions on the number of spectators and immunizations required.According to the state government’s regular operating rules, only two individuals – the bull’s owner and an assistant – will be permitted inside the arena with each bull.Furthermore, district administrations will issue ID cards to the two individuals, and anyone who do not have the cards would be denied entry to the ring. Participants must have had full immunisation and a negative RT PCR test within 48 hours.
