Your flight leaves Heathrow Airport in three hours, but you’re still at a conference in a Canary Wharf tower on the opposite side of the city. When fully operational, the new Elizabeth Line, often known as Crossrail, would reduce the trip time from Canary Wharf to Heathrow to only 38 minutes. The 62-mile network is centred on a 26-mile network of brand-new tunnels that run through central London. The twin tunnels, with a diameter of 20 feet and a depth of up to 40 metres (130 feet), snake through building foundations, London Underground tunnels, and a plethora of other buildings and services.
