According to senior sources, the Indian government is optimistic about Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit on Friday, during which he would meet External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar.
Yi is expected to arrive with a group and to meet with National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, according to sources.
However, no meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been confirmed. According to insiders, this will depend on future events.
They stated that there is a good possibility that India may agree to informal meetings between the Prime Minister and Chinese President Xi Jinping at some point.
The impasse persists, despite multiple rounds of military and diplomatic discussions that have yielded little progress. India has demanded total withdrawal in eastern Ladakh at all places of contention.
