India vs Australia; Women’s World Cup 2022: Lanning leads Australia to win in a clinical run chase

1 min read

Australia skipper Meg Lanning fell three runs short of a century, but she led her team to a six-wicket victory as they chased down a record mark of 278.

After India scored 277/7 batting first in Auckland, Alyssa Healy and Rachael Haynes got Australia off to a blazing start in their chase. Healy achieved her half-century in 49 balls before being bowled out by Sneh Rana. Rachael Haynes was eliminated soon after, but Australia skipper Meg Lanning regained command of the pursuit and put them back on cruise mode. Lanning ultimately reached 50 as well, with Ellyse Perry serving as the partnership’s second violin. Earlier, India’s Mithali Raj, Yastika Bhatia, and Harmanpreet Kaur all struck half century. While Mithali and Yastika put up 130 runs for the third wicket, Harmanpreet put up 64 off 46 balls with Pooja Vastrakar for the seventh wicket.
