Ahead of their four-match Test series against Australia at home, Team India found their name at the top of the ICC Test team rankings thanks to a specialized glitch on the website. ICC Test rankings manage to change only at the end of every series, and neither Australia nor India is now not part of any. The orders were last updated on January 8, 2023, after Australia beat South Africa 2-0 in a three-match series at home.
The Pat Cummins-led side was placed at the top of the table with 126 rating points, while Team India occupied the second spot with 115. India, however, pipped Australia in the Test rankings due to a technical glitch on the ICC’s website. Fans took screenshots of the standings and posted tweets, but the glitch lasted for two hours as Australia recycled the top spot. Per the screenshots shared by fans, India retained their rating point but grabbed the top spot because Australia lost 15 points.
Also, South Africa, who are fourth-ranked, fell to the fifth spot while West Indies jumped from eighth to the sixth spot. India will have the opportunity to go above Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to start on February 9. The hosts informed their squad for the first two tests, while the touring side has even named its 18-man squad.
