India Records 2.51 lakh New Covid-19 Cases with 627 Deaths

According to the Union Health Ministry, India reported 2, 51,209 new Covid-19 cases and 627 deaths on Friday. The total number of active cases is now 21, 05,611, while the death toll is 4, 92,327. The daily positivity rate stands at 15.88%. In the midst of a declining Covid-19 count, the Union Health Ministry announced on Thursday that there are the first signs of the third Covid wave reducing in specific geographic areas and maintained that more than 90% of active cases are in home isolation, indicating mild or moderate disease.

The ministry also noted that 75% of the samples collected in January were of the Omicron variant, which drove away the more virulent Delta from all states except Odisha, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, but warned the unvaccinated and people with vulnerable to be cautious, as the majority of Covid-19 deaths and serious diseases occurred in such populations during the third wave.
