The Indian team, captained by Rohit Sharma, began the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka with a 62-run victory in the series opener in Lucknow. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were the architects of India’s massive triumph, dictating the proceedings and guiding India to a 199/2 in 20 overs. Sri Lanka could only produce 137/6 in 20 overs in response. After being asked to bat first, Ishan and Rohit Sharma got the hosts off to a flying start, adding 111 runs for the first wicket. Lahiru Kumara removed Rohit for 44(32) on the penultimate delivery of the 12th over, and Shreyas Iyer joined Ishan in the middle. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka dismissed Ishan on 89(56). Iyer finished undefeated on 57(28), while Jadeja scored three runs (4). Charith Asalanka, one of the tourists, finished undefeated on 53 off 47 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer both took two wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja, playing his first match since returning from injury, took one. Yuzvendra Chahal also took a wicket. The second Twenty20 International will be held on February 26 at Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
