The Indian team, captained by Rohit Sharma, began the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka with a 62-run victory in the series opener in Lucknow. Sri Lanka could only produce 137/6 in 20 overs in response. After being asked to bat first, Ishan and Rohit Sharma got the hosts off to a flying start, adding 111 runs for the first wicket. Lahiru Kumara removed Rohit for 44(32) on the penultimate delivery of the 12th over, and Shreyas Iyer joined Ishan in the middle. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka dismissed Ishan on 89(56). Iyer finished undefeated on 57(28), while Jadeja scored three runs (4). Charith Asalanka, one of the tourists, finished undefeated on 53 off 47 balls.
