            At the Wanderers, South Africa defeated India by 7 wickets to tie the series.

On Thursday, in the second Test, South Africa defeated India by seven wickets tying the three-match series 1-1. South Africa, chasing 240, came out needing 122 runs for a spectacular win with eight wickets in hand after two sessions were missed due to relentless rain. Dean Elgar led from the front, scoring an undefeated 96 off 188 balls to guide his team to victory in 67.4 overs. Aiden Markram (31) made a significant contribution, as did Rassie van der Dussen (40), Keegan Peterson (28) and Temba Bavuma (23 not out of 45).

The Indian bowlers were unable to extract enough from the surface, with Mohammad Shami taking the sole wicket of the day. The third and final Test begins on January 11 in Cape Town.

India’s final scores were 202 and 266.

South Africa’s totals were 202 and 243/3 in 67.4 overs. (Dean Elgar 96, not out; Rassie van der Dussen 40; Mohammad Shami 1/55.)
