Shikhar Dhawan, Shardul Thakur, and Virat Kohli struck half-centuries for India in the chase, but no other batsmen contributed. South Africa bowled brilliantly in the opening one-day international. Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Andile Phehlukwayo each took two wickets, while Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj each took one for the hosts. Earlier, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen hit hundreds for South Africa, who finished with a total of 296/4 in 50 overs. The pair contributed 204 runs for the fourth wicket, the Protea’s second-highest stand for any wicket against India in ODIs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets, while Ravichandran Ashwin took one.
