The IMF’s executive board authorized $1.4 billion in emergency funding for Ukraine on Wednesday to assist fulfil immediate expenditure demands and offset the economic effect of Russia’s armed invasion. “The Russian military invasion of Ukraine has resulted in a tremendous humanitarian and economic disaster,” IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said in a statement following the meeting, predicting that Ukraine will enter a deep recession this year.
