In Russian media, Meta will be labelled as an “extremist”

Following a court ruling to prohibit the site on Monday, Russian media must now label Facebook parent company Meta as an “extremist” organisation anytime it is referenced.
Earlier in the day, a Moscow court determined Meta to be an extremist organisation and barred the use of two of its products, Facebook and Instagram. WhatsApp is exempt from the restriction.
According to Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media, generally known as Roskomnadzor, that designation must now be stated any time Meta is referenced in the media.
The Islamic State and organisations connected with Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny are subject to similar laws.
Since March 4, Facebook has been restricted in Russia.
